I find people who keep saying “what if we spent this twords something else” hilarious

Its hilarious because now that we have a VISIBLE way to see how much money people are spending on a video game people on tumblr SUDDENLY get defensive. Ill use a well known indie game Bastion for comparison. Bastion in the year of 2011 sold around 500,000 copies of the game which, at its original price of 15 dollars, would equate to 7,500,000 dollars spent on Bastion ALONE.

7.5 MILLION dollars in 2011 alone.

And thats just ONE game. HUNDREDS of games are put out each and every year which people also buy for money. And then there are books, dvds, music, ect.

What makes this comparison even funnier is Hussie is making ZERO profit on the game from the kickstarter “donations”. All the money given is going to be used to make the game, and only after its made will there be any profit in it, and even THEN it will be reduced as such a large number of the loyal fanbase will ALREADY HAVE THE GAME as any one of thousands of people who give 15 dollars or more are getting the game for free.

Apparently ragging on people who buy things from people who make a living off of the things they create for the entertainment of others is a cool thing to do on the internet I guess.

Yep, I pretty much said something similar for this as well.

Money doesn’t disappear when you spend it. In fact it’s precisely the opposite. Money only ever disappears if you don’t spend it.

Brofist. So hard. I actually make a tumblr account specifically to respond to this. I agree with absolutely everything you’ve said and it’s actually a huge weight off my chest to know that someone else seems to have an actual problem with all of this, quite frankly insane slash shipping. I could and at one point damn near have written essays on just how utterly idiotic this whole trend is. The obsession some people have toward slash-shipping John is quite frankly disgusting. And it’s not because of the slash, I don’t give a fuck about slash. I don’t read it, but the amount of fucks I give about it is so minuet it would take a team of swiss scientists and a ten billion dollar atomic nanoscope to measure it accurately. What I care about is that they’re trampling all over canonical character traits, personalities and relationships just to sate their insatiable lust for man-on-ass action. I’d even be willing to cut them some fucking slack if they actually deserved any, but no it’s always just pure wank material that slams two utterly incompatible characters together with all the subtlety and grace of a pair of runaway freight trains colliding head-on. Not that I can really blame them, anyone with the skill and time to actually do it right has better things to to, like cure cancer and invent the universe. Just recently I spent 700 words exhaustively disproving the very concept of John/Dave and John/Karkat after some idiot on the AO3 provoked me. Tempted to go back and continue ranting because said idiot clearly didn’t learn a damn thing.
